Create Favicon Icon Using Photoshop And Other Resources

You can create favicon icon image from adobe photoshop easily from any image file like gif, jpeg,png . The icon file is saved with ico extension. Select an image and open in photoshop, then reduce the image pixel size to any 128x128, 32x32, 24x24, 16x16 depending on your choice, then save as in any name in .ico format.

16x16 pixel favicon size is recommended mostly for websites. Icon file is stored in website root directory or in image folder.You need to insert the link to icon file in a single file or multiple files to make the icon visible in address bar.

Windows Icon Folder

You can also use .ico file to change the look of your folder, to easily identify folder just looking at folder image. Windows already has many icon files which you can select from. Right click any folder. Click properties → customize → change icon then you can browse through any folder and select icon of your choice. I recommend icon size of 32x32 pixels more suitable for windows icons for your choice.

It may be that ico saving format may not be present in some Photoshop. You will have to download ico plugin for Photoshop. Download file and copy, paste in photoshop plugin folder.

You can use free software like IrfanView, icofx free version for saving icon file. There many free online favicon creating websites like genfavion where upload image file is converted to ico file.
