A company named Nth Degree Technologies has developed an innovative new lighting technique that can replace the normal light bulbs with unique what seem like glowing sheet of paper. These paper type bulbs are at present manufactured in 2”x4”sqft dimension and 90-100 watts in power. The printed glowing paper sheets can be placed on any surface; smooth or uneven. The light emitted from these sheets can vary in its color and brightness. It generates approximately 50-60 lumens per watt of power and can last for 50,000 hours.
These printable glowing light sheets replacing florescent bulbs are made up by a normal screen printer but the catch is the ink that is used in printing them. The first step begins by sculpting a thin layer of gallium nitride that produces millions of minute LEDs. These LEDs are then mixed with resin and binders that makes up the LED ink used for printing. Besides the LED ink a silver ink layer is given for electrical connection, phosphors for changing color of the light and a layer of insulin is given to prevent short circuit by separating front from the back. The invisible small metal wires are created by the ink that does not obstruct the light in front.
