In an endeavor to keep offering new features to its users, Google’s online video playback giant YouTube has unveiled one of its most engaging features ‘onsite video editing’, that’s rolling out globally from Wednesday. You no longer have to depend on the expensive, time consuming and resource hungry editing software like Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere to do the elementary editing of videos you want to upload on YouTube. This update will not only amuse the devoted users but even inspire them to get engaged. YouTube has now enabled all its users to be the director and editor of their videos with just the click of a button. A user can edit his videos ‘onsite’ on YouTube, preserving the same video IDs. Thus, you carry forward your comments and video statistics, and all prevailing URLs or trackbacks to your videos will continue to work. Video Editing works ‘onsite’, which means you don’t have to download and upload the video again during or after editing.
1. Quality Improvement features for YouTube
Jason Tuff, the product manager for YouTube, stated that it’s been observed that many users upload videos which are not of good quality and have some scope for improvement. So, if you are not amused with the video content on YouTube, you can now trim the video, delete or add a sound track, add a transition or an effect to the video to make it look as per your will. Any professional who feels like it, can devote his few minutes to improve the quality and content of the video uploaded by an amateur.
This video editing feature will offer a wide range of editing options like stabilizing hand held footage, rotating the video, and enhancing the colors for better visual experience. Users will also be able to perform color modifications with just one click, thus giving a new dimension to the viewing experience.
2. Picnik to provide new aesthetic effects
YouTube has also collaborated with Google’s newly acquired Picnik to provide a new set of aesthetic effects. This will make it easy to add filters like cartoon, black and white, and thermal.
3. Process of video edit
To begin the video edit process, all you have to do is click the ‘Edit Video’ button. Once you are done with the editing, you need to click the ‘Save’ button, or if you are not satisfied with the changes you can always shift back to the original version. The website also offers an option of saving the edited video as the new version of the original video. However, YouTube has decided that popular videos, that is those that have been viewed more than 1,000 times, and video content of the third party once edited will only be saved as new videos.
Word on the street
This new approach of onsite video editing offered by YouTube will transform the way we view video content online. However, the efficacy of this new feature will only be proved by its usability over time. This new feature of Video Editing definitely merits notice by its users. Possibilities of this new feature are endless, and the field is now ripe for your wildest experiments.
