Ethernet cable Wired connection
If you are to go online with a wired connection you need one to two Ethernet Cable wires and a router for wired type connection. These days some internet service providers (ISP) provide modems with more than one Lan port so that you can directly connect your device with an Ethernet cable and the modem you already have with addition to some internal windows internet connection sharing (ICS) settings that we will further discuss. In such a setup you do not require a router but your PC should be on at the time of using your PlayStation/Xbox360.On the other hand in some cases such a type of setup might not work, here you need a router. Note:-It’s better to use a DSL or CABLE connection than a DIAL UP connection for speed.
Wireless Network Connection
The PlayStation/Xbox 360 models that have built in Wi-Fi can be easily connected to net with the help of wireless router. What you have to do is just take an Ethernet cable and plug-in its one end into your modem provided by your ISP and the other end into your wireless router. If your model of PlayStation/Xbox 360 does not have a built in wifi you can still go online with a wireless router by connecting your PlayStation/Xbox 360 with a wireless Adapter.
Internal Settings of PlayStation/Xbox 360 for Wired connection
In System Settings or Settings option go to Network Settings then to Test connection continue with ‘Yes’ ,you can also edit your settings if they are nor appropriate. For your PlayStation select ‘Yes’, then go to ‘Custom’→ ‘Wired’ → ‘Auto Settings’ → ‘set’ →’Automatic’ → ‘Use’→’Enable’. After this all your settings will be displayed, at last Test your Connection and it is done.
Internal Settings of PlayStation/Xbox 360 for Wireless connection
In System Settings or Settings option go to Network Settings then to Custom or Configure Network to Wireless after this Scan. The machine will start searching for the wireless network connection. All your network settings will be displayed; you can see the name of your service provider or select your service provider. Setup your security settings which could be WEP or WAP with a security key or router password. Now make sure everything is right and then Test your connection and we are all set.
Sharing Wired Connection with your PC
In the upper Paragraph we have already discussed how to setup your hardware connection while sharing your network with your computer. Now here we will see how to make some internal settings in your Windows xp OS to smoothly share your connection with PlayStation/Xbox 360.Go to Start → Settings → Network Connections. See here for Internet Connection right click on the icon and go down to Properties window, click on the Advance tab. Here check on the checkbox Allow other network users……..internet connection. Select ‘Local Area Connection 2’ from Home networking connection drop down box. Click Ok and exit. Windows might assign a new IP address or change IP if so choose ‘Yes’.
